Bender’s Big Score

All this year I was consistently asked by my students why I dislike the show Family Guy. My response of “it’s not my thing” was quickly ignored and more substance was needed. So, after some thinking I pinned it down to the lack of intelligence in the humor styling of Family Guy. My students asked for a counter example to this type of humor because they had a hard time understanding it. The only show I could think of was the canceled hit of Futurama.

I was very sad when this show was canceled years ago, but thanks to the Simpsons movie the people at Fox also put together a full length Futurama film on DVD. As the title suggests the story line has a lot to do with Bender and his favorite thing which is stealing. However the Futurama doesn’t translate from the small screen to the big screen as well as the Simpsons did.

The overall story was hard to follow, and the plot twist was easy to see. One of the things I liked about the show Futurama was the twists and turns they had in a 30 minutes show. Now imagine three times the twists and turns all intertwined with each other; total over kill. I was happy to see the show presenting something new after the years of reruns. Plus some of the extras were interesting, but overall very disappointing.
